And work is expected to step up soon on the two Western Avenue buildings on either side of it, said Gary Post and Russ Strong, partners in Western Avenue Properties LLC, which owns all three buildings.
Post and Strong updated members of the Muskegon City Commission on their progress to date since acquiring the buildings in August. Read more »

Two Mt. Pleasant men are in Westmoreland County Prison, and a woman is being sought by borough police for allegedly stealing about $3,700 worth of furniture from a Levin Furniture storage facility on two occasions, police said.
Borough police arrested Brian Grosser, 36, and Daniel John Boyle, 25, both of 808 W. Smithfield St., for allegedly breaking into the South Depot Street storage trailer and taking several couches and coffee tables on March 16 and 17 and then selling the furniture, said borough Patrolman George Grippo.
Grosser was arraigned Thursday night via Web camera before District Judge Douglas Weimer on charges of burglary, criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property, Grippo said. He was jailed in lieu of $25,000 cash bond. Boyle, already jailed on burglary charges stemming from a previous incident, will soon be arraigned from prison on the same charges Grosser faces, Grippo said.
According to police, an informant told borough police that Grosser and Boyle, along with a Jeannette woman, broke into the storage trailer, removed the items and sold them to a borough resident and an unidentified Connellsville pawn shop, Grippo said. Read more »

Nipomo residents will soon have to find a new place to shop for sofas, bed frames and bookcases, because the Furniture Broker is going out of business in April.
Bright yellow signs posted along the building’s exterior, visible from Highway 101 on North Frontage Road, announce huge discounts on all remaining furniture, as the store’s owners are working to clear out the warehouse before the doors close.
Manager Cynthia Alvarez, who has worked in the store for more than 10 years, said it’s closing because of a depression in the industry for smaller stores, which have been seen across the nation. Read more »

Rick Stucky and Steve Stucky spent most of their childhood at Stucky Furniture Store in Monroe. Unpacking furniture, loading furniture to be delivered, and assisting other family members in running the business was a way of life for them.
“It was almost like our family lived here,” said Rick. “I can remember when Ira and Jake and other Stucky family members used to come in and sit around and visit with grandpa. We liked to stand around to listen to their stories. “As we got older, grandpa taught us how to put furniture together. We lived here most of the time,” noted Stucky. Read more »

Like many other venerable family-owned businesses in Cincinnati – La Rosa’s, Skyline and Montgomery Inn – Furniture Fair started with the vision of one man and became a large family enterprise.
Family and relationships are still a driving force behind the company’s success, said President and CEO Rick Daniels, son of Robert “Bob” Daniels, who founded Furniture Fair in 1963 with the first store in Erlanger.
Numerous family members are still involved in leading the business today, said Daniels. They include Rick Daniels’ brothers, Steve, a vice president, and Bill, merchandising manager, and their sister, Jenny Wynne, founder of the design division, plus many more extended family members who work in various positions throughout the company.
Daniels said his father’s vision of high quality and fairly priced furniture is still going strong through the efforts of the younger generation of the Daniels family.
“We have survived where others have failed because we believe in giving the best possible service to our customer,” said Daniels. “That’s what my dad believed, and that’s what we still believe.” Read more »

Daniel Omondi Odhuno’s name means “born in the morning.” Now he’s working morning ’til night on growing his furniture business.
“When you make a mistake, it’s not easy to correct,” says Omondi.
He honed that careful approach starting at 13 years old in his father’s furniture shop in Africa.
“My father passed and he left me with the shop. So I worked in Kenya managing that shop.”
Omondi moved from Kenya to Brattleboro six years ago. Soon he began meeting members of Vermont’s large woodworking community. Read more »

Furniture Fair plans to open its largest area store in Cold Spring, bringing commerce to a shopping center that’s been missing an anchor since K-Mart closed at the same location several years ago.
“It is the largest Furniture Fair yet,” said Ed Hartman, director of marketing for Furniture Fair.
The building is 95,000 square feet.
The company decided to locate in Cold Spring because it’s a fast growing area with attractive demographics, Hartman said.
“Of course Furniture Fair’s roots started with the Erlanger store in 1963,” he said.
The company started by Robert “Bob” Daniels, is now owned and operated by his three sons, Rick, Steve, and Bill Daniels. Read more »
