Cebu furniture makers wow Austria

The local government of Cebu was received warmly by Austrian traders who showed great interest in investing and importing furniture from the province.

Cebu officials led by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia were in full force during their visit to Vienna last month to present the province’s unique furniture business to the Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

“I really make this a point na dadalhin ko ang ating furniture manufacturers to open more market for the Cebu furniture industry our furniture is a world class,” Garcia said.

Garcia’s group showed the audience the growing furniture industry in Cebu through a PowerPoint presentation.

“This is a business matching session for the Cebu delegation with Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the counterpart here in Austria is the Austrian Federation,” said Cebu Board Member Wenceslao Gakit.

Aside from Austria, the officials said they are also set to visit other countries in Eastern Europe.

The group hopes to establish more connections in other European countries like Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia and Germany.

Tehran to host 1st int’l conference on furniture

1st International Conference on World Trade in Furniture, Home Designing and Interior Decoration will be held at IRIB International Conference Center in Tehran from July 9-10.

Announcing this on Saturday, head of the employer association of furniture producers and sellers noted that the conference aims to prepare the ground for cooperation among domestic and foreign companies engaged in this industry.

“Developing furniture industry and getting a foothold on markets in Middle Eastern and Central Asian counties are among other goals of the fair,” Ali Ansari said. Read more »

Tehran To Host Furniture Exhibition In July

The first International Furniture and Interior Decoration Fair and Conference will be held in the IRIB International Conference Center from July 19-20.

Announcing this on Saturday, head of the employer association of furniture producers and sellers noted that the conference aimed to prepare the ground for cooperation among domestic and foreign companies engaged in this industry.

“Developing the furniture industry and getting a foothold on markets in Middle Eastern and Central Asian counties are among the other goals of the fair,” Ali Ansari Reisi said.

He also observed that some domestic and foreign companies and envoys form Turkey, Italy, England, Malaysia and Austria would be represented at the event.

Taking furniture in fresh directions

Dipped in a garish green rubbery coating, the ornate Louis-style dining chairs from Six Inch of Belgium looked like irradiated doggy chew toys. The white fiberglass centipede reared on its legs was really Scolopendra, a 7-foot floor lamp made by Site Specific Design in Brooklyn, N.Y.

And the beanpole clad in fluorescent pink? That was designer Karim Rashid, the prolific creator of household “blobjects,” stalking the aisles of the 19th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair, held recently in New York City. Read more »

ICFF International Contemporary Furniture Fair

Contemporary Furniture The 19th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair May 19-22, 2007 will transform New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center into the global haven for design devotees.

North America’s singular showcase for contemporary design, the Fair draws the most intrepid seekers of design truth and design trends to an extraordinary exhibition of the most inspired models of design on the forefront, as well as thought-provoking programs and a schedule of supplementary exhibits and features.

During the Fair’s four days, 145,000 net square feet (14,500 net square meters) of the Javits Center will bustle with more than 23,000 interior designers, architects, retailers, designers, manufacturers, representatives, distributors, and developers. Germany’s Asko opens first furniture store in Hungary

Germany’s furniture chain Asko has opened its first store in Budapest that it built from EUR 5 million. The company is planning to open eight additional stores in Hungary in the next three years, news portal index.hu has reported on Thursday.

Asko’s first store sprawls on 7,000 sqm in Budapest’s Savoya Park in the 11th district. Asko chose this location because it is the company’s expansion philosophy to set up its first unit in a mall that also sports a hypermarket.

Asko plans to spend EUR 40 million on eight new stores in Hungary in the next three years. Read more »
