Hi. I brought some new wooden garden furniture last year?
June 15th, 2009 Category Garden Furniture
It has been covered over winter with a proper cover from B&Q. When I uncovered it yesterday for the first time this year I found it was mouldy. Not all over it, but enough to be annoying as it is still brand new. I didnt know this could happen to wooden garden furniture. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to repair this, and to stop it happening again? Thank you x x

This is no reflection on the quality of your furniture,it can happen to the best. All you need to to is treat with a mould / fungicide spray which you can also buy from B&Q.

I would go back to B&Q and ask their advice. You would expect that if it was just left uncovered all year. See what they say. If it cost a lot i would take it further especially as it is practically new. Are’nt they supposed to be treated with something to prevent that?

give alight rub down with sandpaper and use teak oil this will bring the natural wood back up

Hardwood furniture should not be covered,it does not require it,and restricts airflow which means a bit of mould etc.
However it is not serious as it will wipe off with a bit of cleaner or bleach. It is just on the surface so don’t worry.
Leave uncovered all year.If it is in a lot of sun than protect with wood oil,but don’t even do that unless it is getting very dried out from the sun.

This mould will wipe off…I would suggest you then use wood oil for your garden furniture …I use it on mine every year at beginning of summer…and in the winter we store it in garden shed…the oil will protect it and you will have it for years.
