What would your dream garden look like?
June 13th, 2009 Category Garden Furniture
I have a school project where we have to make a model of our dream garden and we have to put down on a poster how much the garden furniture and and plants cost. We have a 3000 dollar limit. I need some ideas. I’m not asking you to do my project, just give me ideas. And what shows could I watch for any further ideas.

when i read this question I was wisked away to my dream spot! it must have a water fountain/ pond with beautiful coy fish , a few weeping willows, harbor overhead to grow wisteria shading me, large rocks beside the pond to sit upon & swings that will fit me my hubby & our 2 girls on. Also a picnic table to eat & play games at!
hope that helps! & good luck!!

I like a tropical look, personally. I would have a waterfall installed that recycles its own water, surrounded by small palms, Hibiscus, Honeysuckle, and other Florida type plants. I would have a sand walkway instead of stone, with flagstone as edgers to keep the sand in. I would have groupings of different kinds of lilies, cattail, orchids, or what ever my budget would allow.
TLC has home improvement shows, but I can’t remember the names right now.

Climbing roses rambling on a split rail fence and up over the eaves of the house. Stone paths leading through the garden. Benches here and there where you stop and take in the beauty. Lots of fragrant flowers: Honeysuckle and Tuberose and Viburnum. Lots of color, too.
Check out “Curb Appeal” on HGTV or maybe “Rebecca’s Garden” ( it’s syndicated )

I love Mediterranean type gardens. Lots of aromatic plants and herbs like Rosemary and Sage. It always reminds me of being on holiday and having people over for alfresco dining (and drinking!). You could try looking at gardening magazines or landscaping books from the library.
Try making a list of all the flowers/plants you like, look them up on the internet and see which ones like the same type of soil and environment then you will get a sense of the type of garden you can make. For instance, if you like flowers like honeysuckles, climbing roses and clematis you’ll probably like to design a cottage type garden but if you find yourself liking grasses, poppies, daisies etc you might like to try a wildflower garden.
For prices visit local nurseries to price the plants up.
I don’t know what shows they have where you are but in UK I love watching Gardeners World! They have a website if you want lots of ideas for your garden!
It sounds like a fun project, good luck!

a hammock strung btwn 2 large trees that provide just enough shade but still let you warm in the sun.
lush green grass. no weeds.
large flower beds with a rainbow of colors, tons of gerberas and carnations especially.
a partially shady corner with tons of coleus in tons of colors.
a section of lilacs filling the air with that sweet sweet smell they have.
a large deck with a great set of outdoor furniture and and umbrella. maybe a gazebo in the yard that has kiwi and morning glories climbing up it.
a stone work burn pit for night time entertaining. horse shoe pits.
oh and a veggie garden
and herb container garden on the deck near a large bbq.
