I’ve fallen in love with a leather sofa, but we have kids and a dog and I’ve heard mixed things about leather’s durability.

Anyone had any experience with leather furniture with kids and dogs?

I think it will be fine as long as your dog does not chew on the furniture. Leather wipes up pretty easily. Unless it is sueade and that is a different story.

I had a chair and pets, the scratches and the holes were terrible ,I had to trow the chair away. Kids are okay because you can wipe the leather down but no pets please!

Well I have always grown up in a system where the dogs are not allowed up on the couches. Should this be the case then you have nothing to worry about. The kids are another story. I have heard of families that have had leather couches and their kids knew what their boundaries were as far as the couch. If you do have dogs that will jump on the couch then I say theres no way the leather will hold up. Remember, with leather, the smallest little rip or tear is magnified. Also, if your kids are too small to know how to respect the couch then that is also a bad thing and I would not recommend the couch

As long as it’s not cream! We spent £2900 on a cream leather seat and it was wrecked within 2 mths, the dye from peoples jeans rubbed in to the cracks and there was no way of shifting it!

It should be fine with kids as long as you keep the felt pens and in fact any pens away from them!

As for the dogs, our dog used to sneak up on to the sofa and she ripped a gash in one of the cushions with her claws, and she took loads of scrapes of the leather!

Actually my advice, DON’T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my family has had leather furniture since i was about 6 yrs. old. the actual material has stood up well and is able to be wiped clean for the most part, but the seams have been ripping where the padding meets the top of the sofa for some time.

In my life time I’ve had around 7 living room sets. All were destroyed or looked like s..t in no time due to kids. I decided to buy a leather sofa and leather love seat. I love it. I have had it for 4 years so far, a hell of alot longer that my other ones lasted and it still looks great. If there is a spill, I just wash it with a little soap and water and dry it thouriughly and its fine. I would never get a furniture made out of materail again. I say, go for it. ANd as far as a dog….my daughter bought a leather one and its the only piece of furniture that the dog doesn’t WANT to lie on.

I have had leather furniture for about ten years, also had two labs in the house. One of the reasons I got it was the ease in cleaning pet hair. I have a 7 year old barcolounger that they just replaced all the machanisms in, good warranty.

i would not allow the dog on the sofa…you don’t mention the size of the dog but dog nails are hard on leather sofas and vehicle interiors.
