Furniture Lounge, the retro furniture store in downtown Champaign, will add a second store in downtown Urbana next month.

The Urbana store will be at 126 W. Main St., with owners Scott Schaub and Amanda McWilliams shooting for an Aug. 15 opening.

Furniture Lounge focuses on midcentury modern furniture from the 1950s through the 1980s.

But the Champaign store at 9 E. University Ave. carries less furniture these days and more small decor items and clothing, Schaub said.

The Urbana store is where most of the furniture will be, he added. It will carry items sold on consignment as well as those he and McWilliams find and bring in themselves. The furniture mix will also include some traditional pieces along with the retro, along with lamps and other home items.

The furniture is moving to the new location largely because of the parking shortage in downtown Champaign and the fact that most of the store’s customers are older adults who aren’t willing to put up with the inconvenience, Schaub said.

“Downtown Champaign isn’t as convenient as it is in Urbana,” he added.
