NORTH TONAWANDA: Furniture store will open on Main Street
August 8th, 2007 Category Furniture, Furniture StoreA long-vacant property on North Tonawanda’s Main Street will finally have an occupant once more after a recent sale.
The property at 27 Main St. has been sold from Flanigan Chevrolet, Inc. to In and Out Furniture and Decor, Inc., according to North Tonawanda City Assessor Flora Carozzolo. The sale was recorded in Carozzolo’s office July 13 in the amount of $200,000.
Carozzolo couldn’t provide an exact estimate of how long the property was vacant, but it has been so for years, she said.
“Just from memory, it seems like it’s been vacant for quite some time,†Carozzolo said.
Also included in the sale is the parking lot next to the building, located at 39 Main St. The building is 25,412 square feet and is located on a 1.1 acre parcel, Carozzolo said.
The empty building currently has signs on the windows which read “Future home of New Ridge Furniture and Accessories,†along with a phone number.
The new furniture store will sell indoor and outdoor furniture, according to Lisa Blemeo, the buyer and manager of the future store.
“It’s going to be a full-line furniture store,†Blemeo said.
The store does not have a set opening date at this point, she said.
The new property owner, Mostafa Tanbakuchi, also owns the Tonawanda Castle in the City of Tonawanda. Tanbakuchi wants his new land to be more than just a furniture store, he said.
“We are trying to do something beyond the typical furniture store,†Tanbakuchi said. “We’re trying to do something totally different.â€
Tanbakuchi is working with the Lumber City Development Corp. on plans to create the Lumber City Village, which would be a series of small shops near the furniture store.
“That’s what our long-term plan is,†he said. “Downtown North Tonawanda is such a beautiful spot, and there’s such potential there.â€
