Construction is Underway on a New Furniture Row Shopping Center Located in Clarksville, IN

Furniture Row Companies of Denver, Colorado, which currently owns and operates 330 stores in 32 states, plans to open four jointly located home furnishing and bedding specialty stores in Clarksville.

To house the stores, the furniture retailer plans to build a one-level, 53,440-square-foot Furniture Row Shopping Center.

Crews have begun erecting the structural steel for the new Center located at 4425 East Hwy 31 in Clarksville. Construction is anticipated to be completed by fall of 2007.

The Center will contain four specialty furniture stores in one convenient location. The stores brands include Oak Express®, Bedroom Expressions®, Sofa Mart® and Denver Mattress Company®. Read more »

Developer offers patio furniture incentive

A limited number of designer homes are located throughout the community in northern Peoria.

Haverty Furniture June same store sales fall 5.1 pct

Haverty Furniture Cos. Inc.’s June same-store sales fell 5.1 percent and the home furnishing retailer said it still does not expect its second-quarter results to be profitable.

The company said sales in June fell 3.2 percent to $69.4 million, from $71.7 million a year ago.

Bassett Furniture Slips To Loss In Q2, Net Sales Decline - Quick Facts [BSET]

Bassett Furniture Industries Inc. (BSET) announced second quarter financial results, reporting a net loss of $2.42 million or $0.20 per share, compared to net income of $2.83 million or $0.24 per share in the same quarter last year. Loss from operations for the quarter was $5.98 million, compared to income from operations of $1.1 million in the same quarter prior year. Net sales for the quarter declined 14% to $75.4 million, from $87.7 million in the year-ago quarter. Read more »

Furniture Direct final sale prepared

It’ll be insult added to injury for many frustrated customers of the bankrupt former Furniture Direct store in London.

A liquidator this month is expected to sell, in the former store on Fanshawe Park Road, some of the same items Furniture Direct customers paid for but never received.

The London store was part of a Waterloo-based chain that closed in April, after months of complaints from customers who hadn’t received furniture they’d ordered.

A search of the company’s records turned up 3,000 customers across the chain who paid at least a 33 per cent deposit or, in some cases, full price for furniture never delivered, said Susan Taves, a bankruptcy trustee for BDO Dunwoody.

Taves said much of the furniture apparently was never ordered because Furniture Direct was in a financial hole, owning money to manufacturer Ashley Furniture and back rent on its retail stores. A careful inventory turned up 5,000 pieces of furniture when there should have been 10,000. Read more »

Pakistan Furniture Industry Has Great Potential: Malaysian Official

akistan’s furniture industry has a lot of potential and if properly utilized, it can be developed into a productive and competitive one, said Dr Wan Razali, Director General of the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) after meeting with officials of Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), here Monday.

During his stay in Pakistan, Dr Razali visited various forested areas in the NWFP and northern areas as well as Changamanga in Punjab with the aim of helping Pakistan develop its forestry system.

He said Pakistan had the potential to become a productive source of furniture, but this was totally reliant on developing a sustainable forest system.

He also explored the possibilities of FRIM collaborating in the setting up of furniture testing labs in Lahore & Peshawar as well as a timber-testing lab in Abbottabad. Read more »

Furniture Brands receives $600M credit facility

Furniture Brands International Inc. said in a regulatory filing Tuesday that it entered into a commitment letter June 22 for a proposed senior revolving credit facility for $600 million.

Furniture Brands entered the agreement with J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. and JPMorgan Chase Bank NA., according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

The firm was granted a waiver June 29 to gain relief from being out of compliance with two other financial covenants, according to a SEC filing. Read more »
