Woven outdoor furniture

A bikini-clad beauty with shapely long legs stretches out poolside on a comfy chaise as she drinks in the sunshine. She lifts the brim of her straw hat slightly to glimpse a waiter standing over her with a tray of exotic drinks.

The image epitomizes the Orange County lifestyle.

Since we can live outside most of the year, we expect more from our outdoor furniture. Not only should the comfort and style of our outdoor rooms flow with the sophistication of the interiors – furnishings must stand up to the heat.

Take a look at the latest in designer furnishings for outside made from high-tech woven materials:

Each piece in the unconventional collections from Dedon in Germany is handmade by weavers in the Philippines using Hularo fiber resin over a powder-coated aluminum frame. The latest seating collection, Yin Yang, consists of two elements that appear as if they were formed by nature and fit together as a work of art. Dedon’s clean silhouettes are designed by an international triumvirate – American Richard Frinier, Dutchman Frank Ligthart and Swiss-born Nicolas Thomkins.

Denpasar, Frinier’s newest collection for Century Leisure, also uses Hularo hand-woven and shaped into sweeping arcs and romantic spiral volutes. It reinterprets styles from the Dutch and Indonesian colonial periods on the island of Bali.

Walter’s Wicker adds a sculptural form to its new Randi club chair. Made from woven resin on an aluminum frame, this sumptuous seating can withstand the rigors of outdoor use.
