They’d barely moved in when they got cleaned out.

But when more than $35,000 worth of goods were nicked recently from JYSK, a new London home furnishings store, the district manager didn’t take it lying down.

After reporting the heist to police, Jim Davy took the unusual step of taking out an ad in The Free Press with hopes readers could help catch the culprits.

“The police are going to do their job, but I take this personally,” Davy said of the June 20 theft from the Masonville-area store.

“I just want to catch somebody and charge them.”

More than $35,000 worth of home furnishings — including a heavy haul of mattresses, bedroom sets and other furniture — were nabbed from two locked tractor-trailers outside the store overnight on June 20, he said.

The theft, which happened just weeks after JYSK opened on North Centre Road, prompted Davy to buy an ad spot appealing to readers for information on the crime.

The Danish-based store features bed, bath and housewares, plus Scandinavian-style furnishings.

“We were so excited to go into London and then we got smacked,” Davy said.

“Welcome to London.”

Since the loot was boxed, bagged and new, Davy said he’s hopeful readers will contact police or Crime Stoppers if they see the merchandise floating around or for sale.

The goods will be marked with the JYSK logo, he said.

“I’m just putting up the flag and hopefully someone will hear or see something and call the police,” Davy said.

Const. Michelle Romano said it’s unusual for a victim of a crime to place an ad appealing to readers for help.

“We’ve never really heard of that,” she said, adding, “If it helps our investigation, we support that.”
