Exhibition Showcases Chosun Dynasty Wooden Furniture
June 27th, 2007 Category FurnitureThe traditional Korean home is a rarity today, and the articles used to furnish them in the past are becoming coveted works of art.
The Museum of Korean Buddhist Art is holding a special exhibition of Chosun Dynasty wooden furniture between June 11 to July 31.
In this exhibition of some 30 furniture pieces from the Chosun Dynasty, which lasted from the 14th to the 20th century, visitors can learn about and appreciate these craftworks.
The basic concept used to produce the household items are similar to modern ones. The difference is they’re made solely out of durable woods like pine and ginko ranging from minimalist to highly decorative designs.
Antique Korean furniture fetches up to hundreds of thousands of dollars today, but the aesthetic pleasure they provide is free for all at this exhibition.
