Maine architects get to draw on the furniture for exhibit

Opening on Saturday, “Getting Personal: Maine Architects Design Furniture” features 15 pieces, many built by Maine artisans.
The exhibit follows the furniture from napkin sketches to final products of wood, concrete and steel.
The show will run through Aug. 28 and is designed to complement the museum’s upcoming “Frank Lloyd Wright and the House Beautiful.”

Drawings By Carl Klimt — The June Fitzpatrick Gallery in Portland presents an exhibit of Carl Klimt’s drawings starting on Friday with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Klimt spent a month studying in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, and these anthropomorphic 3-inch-by-3-inch drawings are the result. A Bowdoin College graduate and Portland resident, Klimt is also the great-grandnephew of Viennese painter Gustav Klimt. Erick and Amparo Carvajal-Hufschmid — Husband and wife Erick Hufschmid and Amparo Carvajal-Hufschmid share billing at ICON Contemporary Art in Brunswick this month. He is a photographer who uses an antique wooden box camera to produce his work; she is a print maker who uses wood blocks to make her unique images. The couple lives in Alton, N.H. An opening reception will be held on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. The show runs through June 30. ICON Contemporary Art is at 19 Mason St. in Brunswick, and is open weekdays from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, call 725-8157.
Reflections — Vivien Russe’s acrylic panel paintings will be featured at Aucocisco Gallery in Portland this month. The opening reception is tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. Russe’s paintings are inspired by the Presumpscot River’s Saccarappa Falls, which are outside her new studio at the Dana Warp Mill in Westbrook. Russe has shown her work extensively in Maine; this is her first solo show at Aucocisco, and it will be up till June 23. The gallery is at 613 Congress St. in Portland, and is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and by appointment. Call 775-2222 for more information.
