2nd Annual Muebles Fuertes Festival

Tomorrow, the 2nd Annual Muebles Fuertes Festival will take place on A. Mabini St., Sampalukan, Caloocan City.

Dubbed the “furniture district” of Caloocan City because of the rows of stores selling and manufacturing finely crafted but inexpensive wooden furniture, the festival highlights the area’s fiesta celebrations.

A parade featuring floats that depict the district’s furniture industry opens the festival, and the stores will offer discounts on their merchandise.

Sofa sets, dining tables, chairs, consoles, bed, china cabinets, office and school desks and various other furniture will be on sale.

The festival takes shape through the efforts of Fr. Ruben Maybuena, parish priest of St. Joseph the Workman Parish and the Parish Pastoral Council.

Coinciding with the feast day of St. Joseph, patron saint of workers, the festival aims to give recognition to the perseverance and craftsmanship of the furniture makers in the district.

For the past months, the “Search for Dakilang Alwagi” has been underway, and the awarding rites will be held after the 8 a.m. concelebrated mass to be officiated by Most Rev. Bishop Deogracias Yñiguez Jr., D.D., Bishop of Caloocan.

“The furniture industry in this district has thrived even before the war,” said Dr. Ike Orlina, chairman of the local Parish Pastoral Council. “The Muebles Fuertes Festival is our way of giving more meaning to the traditional celebration of our fiesta.”
