Japanese furniture restorer opening shop in Clark
March 30th, 2006 Category FurnitureThe ingenuity and excellence of Filipinos in craftsmanship has attracted a Japanese firm specializing in restoration of old furniture and other antiques.
The Kiku Imports Company Phils. Inc. will utilize a high number of Filipino furniture craftsmen in its furniture and fixture refurbishing plant in the Clark Ecozone, the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) said.
Antonio R. Ng, CDC president and chief executive officer, said Kiku Imports Company Philippines Inc. will import and refurbish used furniture and fixtures then ship these out to its markets mostly in Japan and US.
Ng said a lease agreement for the furniture restoration shop has been signed recently between him and Rhyau Hizon, Kiku president.
He disclosed that under the lease agreement, Kiku will initially invest close to P1.5 million for the establishment of the refurbishing house.
CDC marketing manager Rafael Galvez said the investment project will be the first-of-its-kind in the Philippines where all old and antique furniture and fixture will be imported from Japan.
Galvez also told Ng that Kiku, a Japanese name for the chrysanthemum flower, has also investments located in New York, USA.
The restoration of old and antique furniture has become one of the famous industries in Japanese following the depletion of available lumber for furniture making due to the restriction on logging of trees.
